1. WhatsApp–Based Scams (Very Common)

These are currently some of the most abused attack vectors in Ghana.

Common Examples:

  • “Hi, is this you?” messages with a photo or short text to start a scam.

  • Fake job offers, internships, or contracts sent via WhatsApp.

  • Account takeover scams: Attacker pretends to be WhatsApp support and asks for a 6-digit verification code.

  • Impersonation scams: Messages pretending to be your boss, HR, or a colleague requesting urgent help or money.

  • Fake giveaways and promotions (MTN, Vodafone, AirtelTigo, government grants).

Risk:

  • Loss of WhatsApp account

  • Financial fraud

  • Identity misuse
